Instructions are to work flat or in the round and the trees are Swiss darned on to the hat afterwards. I would suggest you use two DK yarns for this project and you could just use anything in your stash.
My hat sample is worked in Erika Knight British Blue Yarn in Iced Gem and the trees are worked in Rowan Kid Classic which is aran weight, so not the perfect match to work with a DK yarn but I was stashbusting and didn’t intend to release the pattern!
As always I recommend you work a swatch for gauge but if you are substituting yarns that differ in weight slightly then this is a must!
